Up skill primary teachers to be able to lead the delivery of high quality primary school PE.
The qualification is an effective use of the physical education and school sport premium funding; by up-skilling primary school teachers it will ensure a sustainable legacy which will impact on children and young people.
Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism
Available to QTS AND non QTS professionals supporting PE delivery in schools
This is a nationally recognised qualification that aims to up skill primary school teachers to improve the overall delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools. On successful completion of this qualification, delegates will be able to assist in raising the standards within primary school physical education teaching.
Content includes:
- National Curriculum and expectations in PE
- Good to outstanding teaching in PE
- Developing an engaging curriculum
- Assessment for learning and pupil progression
- Planning and programming units of work
- Health and safety in PE
Equivalent to: HND and foundation degree (15 credits)
Guided learning hours: 45 (over 5 days)
Independent learning hours: 96
We are delighted to announce a brand new partnership with Carnegie School of Sport. This new collaboration ensures that all Level 5 course sessions will take place in the new £45m state of the art facility at Leeds Beckett University, Headingly Campus.

Level 6 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership
Available to Primary or Secondary QTS ONLY
This is a recognised qualification to improve the overall leadership and management of the delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools. The aim of this qualification is to enable subject leaders to support and upskill other colleagues in teaching the physical education curriculum. On successful completion of this qualification, delegates will be able to advocate, articulate and lead physical education to achieve whole school improvement.
Equivalent to: Bachelors degree and graduate certificate (4 credits)
Guided learning hours: 18 (over 2 days)
Independent learning hours: 20
