The Hereford Community Games is a great success!

For the first time the Community Games Team partnered with the newly established Special Olympics Herefordshire network to deliver a fantastic Community Games Event at Hereford Leisure Centre.

Opened by 7-time Paralympic Champion and World Record holder Sascha Kindred CBE, around 100 people attended the event providing an opportunity for people with learning disability to try out a number of sports and activities.

Leominster Tennis Club was among those offering a taster session to attendees and are the first to come aboard, offering offer Special Olympics sessions on at their club. Sessions are set to take place on Tuesday evenings at Leominster Leisure Centre.

In his closing remarks at the Community Games, Chris Corke the main contact for Special Olympics Herefordshire said 'It's been fantastic to see the bravery of everyone today as you've tried some new activities and from the noise, energy and smiles around the hall, it's clear you've really enjoyed them. We'll now look at what you're favourite activities are and put a plan in place to maintain the momentum of today and develop some regular opportunities for you to take part and maybe in the future compete in your chosen sports'.

Special Olympics Herefordshire would really like to hear from any clubs in the following sports that would like to open their doors and offer inclusive sessions for individuals with learning disabilities:

Alpine Skiing, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boccia, Bowls, Cricket, Cycling, Equestrian, Figure Skating, Floorball, Football, Golf, Gymnastics (Artistic & Rhythmic), Judo, Kayaking, Motor Activities Training Programme, Netball, New Age Curling, Powerlifting, Sailing, Speed Skating, Table Tennis, Ten Pin Bowling and Tennis.
