£105,000 invested into Tackling Inequalities across Herefordshire

Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire is proud to announce that we have been awarded £105,000 from the Government's Covid-19 Outbreak Management Funds grant as part of Herefordshire Council's Covid-19 recovery plan, supporting economic recovery and improving wellbeing in Herefordshire.

Over the past 18-months, Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire has been provided with £150,000 'Tackling Inequalities Funding', from Sport England and The National Lottery, to help reduce the negative impact of COVID-19 and the widening of the inequalities in sport, physical activity and exercise.

Data from the Sport England commissioned Physical Activity attitudes and behaviours survey during COVID-19 is highlighting widening gaps in the activity levels across existing priority audiences, particularly those from Lower Socio-Economic Groups, individuals living with a long-term health condition or disability and diverse ethnic communities.

This week, Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire has received a further £105,000 from the Government's Covid-19 Outbreak Management Funds grant as part of Herefordshire Council's Covid-19 recovery plan, supporting economic recovery and improving wellbeing in Herefordshire. The additional funding provided by Herefordshire Council will extend Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire's work to tackle inequalities by supporting local communities to become and remain active following the pandemic.

Stephen Brewster, Chief Executive Officer at Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire said, "We know that pre-existing inequalities in sport and physical activity have been exacerbated by the pandemic and those from under-represented groups and communities are even further away from an active lifestyle as a result."

"Thus far we have collaborated with 32 community organisations to distribute the Sport England Tackling Inequalities Fund and we are thrilled to receive additional funding from the Government's Covid-19 Outbreak Management Funds grant through Herefordshire Council, to extend our work in this area."

Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire is keen to work with organisations which can support and encourage priority audiences to become more active, utilising the Tackling Inequalities Fund.
