This Girl Can

This Girl Can

Fear of judgement can stop many of us from taking part in physical activity, exercise and sport, but as thousands of women up and down the country are proving, it really doesn't have to! Launched in January 2015 and funded by Sport England, This Girl Can is a celebration of the active women everywhere who wiggle, jiggle, move to prove there is no 'right' way of getting physically active. Whether it's running the school run, playing with the kids or getting muddy in the local park, This Girl Can aims to celebrate the amazing ways that women and girls are getting active. For inspiration and ideas to get active in and around the home through the Covid-19 pandemic, visit our home exercise page or follow our Twitter, Instagram or Facebook pages.

In Herefordshire and Worcestershire...

Over the past 4 years Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, in partnership with schools, colleges, local authorities, leisure providers, community organisations and sports clubs, has delivered a localised school campaign to empower female students across the two counties through physical activity and sport. As part of the campaign, we case studied an excellent example of the changes that can be made to girls' PE to help increase participation. So far we have been successful in engaging over 10,000 women and girls in Herefordshire and Worcestershire and we don't plan to stop any time soon!

Building on the success of the localised campaign, from 2020 we will explore new areas of work within our year-long campaign. This will include primary research, insight gathering and sharing, adopting a new antenatal and postnatal focus with the help of partners, fertility fitness programmes and further activating campaigns on a local level.

If you are an organisation looking to join us in supporting women and girls to be more active, you may wish to consider joining the This Girl Can Supporters Hub. Here you will find a range of tools and resources to support your marketing and campaigns.
