About Hereford Aikido Group
Hereford Aikido Group began in 1981. The group is affiliated with Shin Gi Tai Aikido, of Gwynne Jones Soke and registered with the British Aikido Board.
Instructor John Duggan, 6th Dan, has been teaching Aikido in Hereford and the surrounding area since 1987 and is a Senior Instructor of Traditional Aikido for the region. He also instructs the British Budo Federation and the Irish Budo Seminars in Southern Ireland.
Aikido consists of both physical and mental disciplines and contains a strong element of Japanese Budo tradition. Physical training covers both general fitness and conditioning (at your own pace). Attack techniques include both strikes and grab, defence gives emphasis to throws and pins. After the basics students may study freestyle defence against numerous opponents. Aikido is suited to all genders and most physical abilities.
Hereford Aikido Group operates an open-door policy to other Aikido Associations but stipulates that practitioners be 16 years or over.
